Children's Rights
The following rights should be considered in developing a parenting plan.  

I.          All children have the right to be loved unconditionally by both parents.

II.         All children have the right to express love and affection for each of their parents without
having to worry that the other parent will disapprove or be disappointed.

III.        All children have the right to a continuing relationship with both parents without either
parent saying anything derogatory about the other parent in their presence.

IV.       All children have the right to remain active in both of their parents’ lives and to spend time
with each parent on a regular basis.  

V.        All children have the right to have both of their parents participate in school, sporting,
religious, and other extra-curricular activities without fear that one or both parents will cause
disruption or be disappointed.

VI.       All children have the right to be free of the conflict between their parents and never be
forced to take sides, defend, or denigrate the other parent.  

VII.      All children have the right not to be used as a messenger between the parents.

VIII.     All children have the right to be free from taking on parental responsibilities and should
never be forced or even asked to decide where they want to live.  

IX.       All children have the right to personal sleeping space and personal possessions
(toothbrushes, hairbrushes, clothes, shoes, toys) in each home regardless of the amount of
time spent with each parent.  

X.        All children have the right to be treated as an important person with individual feelings,
ideas, desires, and needs.
